IR4 – Mechanical Design Engineer – Robotics
Are you a Mechanical Engineer with a passion for robotics and automation? IR4, a leading company in the Advanced Manufacturing Industry is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team.
What is required for this position
As a Mechanical Design Engineer at IR4, you will be responsible for designing and developing cutting-edge automation systems for our customers across a range of industrial sectors. We are looking for someone with:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience in robotics and automation
  • 4+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a small team.
  • Attention to detail with strong design and drafting skills using 3D modelling software (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Knowledge of materials, surfaces finishes, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience in linear motion, gearboxes, motors and pneumatics systems design is desirable.
Additional experience in the automation industry, a trade background in manufacturing and/or fabrication, and proficiency in other areas such as robotics and machine design are a significant benefit.

The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for the fit up and assembly of the various automation systems being designed and built by the IR4 team. The mechanical fitter will also support the build activity through with the fabrication of smaller components of the systems in production. The mechanical fitter will provide support to the installation and commissioning of the same systems at customers sites in various locations and once installed the mechanical fitter will also provide service support to these systems.
Main activities
  • The seamless integration of workshop fabrication and assembly activities working in conjunction with the design development team. 
  • coordinating and managing the completion of works through the workshop at either a project or operational level. 
  • ensure that all works are completed in a timely and efficient manner and of a quality that is typical of Original Equipment Manufacturers. 
  • Management of the workshop environment to ensure that it is at all times configured to maximise the efficiency of the project build programs while also ensuring that it presents as an OEM level factory. 
  • Support to product development trials and testing 
Key skills
COMPETENCY
  • Significant experience or demonstrated capability / knowledge of workshop operations 
  • Ability to read and manufacture machine tools from complex production drawings 
  • Knowledge and compliance of workshop practices with codes, standards and practices 
  • Knowledge of managing resource times and tasks for support to the manufacturing effort. 
  • Awareness of relevant engineering codes, standards and practices. 
  • Strong all round written and oral communication skills. 
Internal contacts

The mechanical fitter will engage with both the development and operations team. The engagement with the development team will be to support all manner of activities associated with the build of the first of type systems in production. The engagement with the operations team will support all manner of activities associated with the build of repeat systems as well as installation, commissioning and service support activities.

External contacts

The mechanical fitter will have limited requirement for external contacts, however, may be called upon to support the engagement with the supply chain relevant to their experience.

Typical experience

The Mechanical Fitter will be trade qualified or have significant industry experience within the discipline. Their resume should reflect experience working with machine tools either through building them or servicing and supporting them as well as supporting installation and commissioning of the same
